Luis Caballero
Throughout his career, Luis has created and
implemented successful asset-building programs and lending initiatives specific
to the needs of Latino consumers and underserved communities. Some of
these initiatives include: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), a low-income
tax clinic, affordable housing programs, financial education programs,
Individual Development Accounts (IDA), alternative payday loan programs, affordable
auto loan programs, Hispanic outreach programs, and the CDFI Fund grant program.
Luis’s grant writing efforts have led to multiple
grant awards totaling tens of millions of dollars from a variety of public and
private sources. Luis has a B.S. in Business Management and is a graduate
of Southwest CUNA Management School. He has been involved in a great
number of industry associations. Current associations include: founding and current
Board Member of the Network of Latino Credit Unions and Professionals; Member
of the International Relations Committee for the Texas Credit Union League;
Co-Chair of the Coalition for Family Economic Progress; and Co-Chair of El Paso
Saves.
